It List: Tuesday 5/22/07

Sorry to be lame, but the thin writings you'll find below are the best results I could manage in the unexpectedly small 5 minute window I had to put all the text together for today's list. Writing it was like playing Win, Lose or Draw, except everyone loses.

Monsters of Pot/Eiliyas/Club of Rome/Zanzibar Snails/Church of the Apocalypse(House of Tinnitus): Another excellent show of harsh noise and madness at the House of Tinnitus. You won't find any indie hitmakers in this line up, although you might want to check out Monsters of Pot's Myspace to get a small taste of what you'll be getting yourself into at tonight's show. It'll be fun for anyone that can handle it.

Spoon (Granada): Jack Daniels sponsored show. Invite only. Can't get tickets even if you try. I don't care. I like Spoon as much as the next bro I suppose (although their new album hasn't sounded that great the first few times around), but I'm just not inspired to jump through hoops to get into this show, which is apparently what you have to do. So good luck with all that. I suppose we can tip our hats to Spoon for making Jack Daniels foot the bill instead of the fans, but the forced corporate fun that usually results from branding exercizes like this often isn't worth the gas it takes to get there. But maybe that's just me.

Fishboy/Drew Danburry/Iji (Rubber Gloves)

Also, we've been talking today with a representative of the new thedentoncatalogue.com, which features a collection of live performance videos from bands like Electronik Warfare, Early Lines, and a lot more. They've apparently been having a little bit of trouble with server overload and formatting today, but they're fixing those problems as we speak. Anyway, we've got some projects in the works with them, so stay tuned for that.

This is dumb.

HOUSE OF TINNITUS IS GONNA RULE TONIGHT!!! i cant wait!!

Here's the full p.r.

OK, off to dirty D now ...

Appearing TONIGHT! May the 22nd at the
House of Tinnitus at 628 Lakey in Denton, Texas, starting at 9pm

Special Projections by the Jason Wade Experience

Monsters of Pot (Minneapolis, MIN)
Dual gateway to a mutant netherworld where apocalyptic waste encircles its pray, transforming them into luminous astral projections – but not before peeling each and every cuticle of skin, bone and marrow, layer by layer, thanks to sick goblin generators pumping out dirty waveforms and fricasseed barrages of cold cranking amps. Remember that first time out with Whitehouse, when you realized Birthdeath Experience could give you tinnitus AND vertigo at the same time?? Orgasmic!

Eiliyas (Atlanta, GA)
Oblique, bizarre, and playful pile of frayed potpourri/bastard child of a craft project emanating from the tweaked-out & all-around unwell freak scene of Atlanta, GA.

Club of Rome (Atlanta, GA)
Atavistic emissions from a throbbing nebula populated with the broken splinters of early rock & roll gone horribly wrong. The Birthday Party during an electric enema.

The Zanzibar Snails (Denton, TX)
“crackling currents of electronic hum beneath a cryptic bed of warped sax groans and oblique guitar plucks” … or slow-seeping riddles from the static subconscious, piling up into a whirlwind phalanx of watermarked postscripts … appearing as a quartet including contact percussives.

Church of the Apocalypse (Cedar Park, TX)
Minimalist doom drone achieving “a kind of robotic catharsis” in a Skullflower-ish sort of way. Like viewing a dark late-80s cyberpunk flick during a Stage Four tussin trip.

Something tells me that whomever it is really hates themselves.

Why are you so mean to people on here? Are you okay? Are you sick? Does your band not get a lot of attention, or maybe the attention you'd like for it to get? I understand that, and I know that it's really easy to say whatever you want on here...i've been quite mean on here before, but you've got to realize that although we can be anonymous on here, we are still talking to people...to our peers...and we all have feelings, you know?

sincerely,
Kyle

And I don't mean to say that you're necessarily in a band. Not everyone is in a band(definantly a good thing). I'm just trying to help in some way instead of just going off on you, because that isn't going to help a thing.

I feel like shit now.

the best part about thedentoncatalogue is that now the shit-talkers will have undeniable proof of the fun they are missing out on while they sit on their computers blabbering on about how terrible DFW is.

Great show by Spoon last night. Kind of a weird crowd since it was half hipster central, half people there for the free booze. Anyone could get a ticket by walking up to the door between 8-9pm.

They played for about an hour and a half, new songs and old, and were really tight (as usual). No big standout singles from the new record, but more solid songs to add to the catalogue.

were you in one of the performing bands, 9:48? did you not take part in the all-you-can-eat/drink provided for the bands backstage?
no?
then please stfu.

4:03 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

um, actually i date one of the performers and i know there were enough people there, but the touring bands barely got paid. rgrs takes way too much out of the dooor.

thank you.

9:10 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

One last time: it was a FREE show. FREE. As in no money was taken at the door to see the bands. There was the backstage area open to all performers both days with FREE beer & food.
There was only one "touring" band (Lords, who came down solely for the show from KY), and I can attest that it was made worth their 30 hr drive.
So again, please stop talking out cher ass, you know not what you speak of.

thanks.

bands drank and ate for free.
sorry you missed it.

I didnt miss it. I was talking about the touring bands your venue hosted on Tuesday night. That didnt make enough money for two gallons of gas. Even though there were people there. YOU were stuck on that good deed you did-giving some free food and beer to bands that do yr promoting for you and who you never pay. Such a kind heart you have.
